Adopting one of our dogs if you live in the UK
Adopting one of our dogs will almost certainly mean that you have to wait a while before your new family member is able to travel to you.
Preparation
It takes 7 months to prepare a dog for UK due to the wait involved for rabies antibody blood tests (a UK government requirement to allow the dog in to the country). All the necessary preparation will be carried out by ourselves. All our dogs are fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and provided with a pet passport which allows travel to and from the UK (as long as the dogs rabies jab is kept up to date this passport is valid for life).
Importantly, our dogs are also blood screened for the two most common mediterranean diseases of dogs, Leishmania and Ehrlichia. Dogs with Leishmania will not be rehomed in the UK. Dogs with Ehrlichia will be treated by us and, as this illness is curable, can be rehomed in Britain.
Travel Arrangments
Not only do we undertake to prepare the dogs' travel documentation, but we also get the dog to the UK in order to be collected by his/her new family. Our dogs are usually driven over by volunteers/acquaintances of ours ensuring that the animal is well cared for on his/her journey. This may require some flexibility by the adoptive family and some travel within the UK might be necessary to collect your pet at a convenient meeting point.
Donations
As we are a charity who survive solely on donations (we recieve no financial grants) we ask for a minimum donation of 150 Euros per dog (larger amounts gratefully accepted but that would be at the adopter's discretion!!). This donation helps to go towards covering the cost of the preparation of the dog and transportation of the dog from Spain to the UK.
