The Lovely Irish Setter

ABOUT ONE AND A HALF YEAR AGO, A BEAUTIFULL IRISH SETTER WAS BORN....

He looked curious into the world full of expectations and during his sleep he dreamed about chasing rabbits and birds. He was ready.

Unfortunately his craddle stood in the wrong place and although he did the best he could, his owner wasn´t really happy with him.

So one day they left him starving to death in a well, together with his high expectations and dreams about a beautifull life.

And while he laid there, unable to climb out and considering what he did wrong a man passed and started talking to him in a way he´d never heard. Not really sure what this man was telling him, a seed of hope was planted in his heart. The stranger helped him to climb out of the well and although he was almost unable to walk because he was so weak, he stood up and went with this strange man, who brought him to clinivet.

A bit confused he looked at his new surroundings. After several tests, taken by the vet, they told him he was really ill, he was suffering from leishmaniosis and at least 6kgs under weight ( 30% of his total bodyweight)... . And then there was this problem with his eyes. The man who found him promised red he´d come back for him, after he would have had the treatments he so desperately needed. A total new life began for red. Living in the clinic where everybody treated him nice, long walks with this nice american lady, Vicky or the biker guy, Pete.

Loads of medication and most important a lot of love and some new doggiefriends. Especially this lovely podenco girl, also abandoned, made his heart beat faster and made life look so beautifull again. One day the podenco girl told him, that she felt really sorry, but she had to say goodbye to him, because she wanted to go to England to her new family. A nice lady, called Diane, from Ibizan Hound Rescue would give her a lift. Of course Red was sad, but as well happy for her and after waving her goodbye he went back into the clinic, waiting for new friends, who of course came fast, because some people like to think that the clinic also is a nice place to dump their unwanted and sick animals.

Although everything went well there was still one big issue, Red had a serious disturbed food and appetite problem. Every day somebody cooked him nice food with meatballs, steak, pasta or other haute cuisine stuff, but he just didn´t know what to do with it. And no eating, no more weight- and survive just on love will last a couple of days, but not for ever. Because he didn´t put on weight and still lookes ill, evrybody told him he was so nice, but nobody wanted him.

And the man who found him descided he couldn´t take him. Did they make all the efforts for nothing?? Red became depressed, and the few ounces he´d put on he lost again. Fortunately this dutch lady decided she would take him home to foster and try to help red with his food issues. Red arrived in a 4 star dog restaurant, four times a day fresh cooked pasta with creamy butter, vegetables, eggs and fresh meat were being served.

Warm food!!! The way he liked it, and fed by hand!!! The way he wanted it. The lady cleaned his eyes before dinner so finally he was able to see what he was eating. And as days passed he became stronger and stronger.

His hair started to grow back, and even began to shine. And he put 6 kgs of weight on. He played with his new sisters and brothers and loved to run, swim in the river and chasing birds, just the way he dreamed a long time ago. So Ellen, the vet took a new bloodtest and the results were good, and the leish value went down from 400 to 160.

Great news! Red is looking for a new home - Red is ready!!!!!!

So today red is looking for a nice family, maybe with children, because he loves children. He now likes to eat normal dog biscuits but sometimes needs to be encouraged a bit, and it helps if dinner is being served with some cooked pasta or biscuits mixed with soup. He will need medication for his leish, but this will cost only € 10 a month. He would be happy with a garden and nice walks, and will behave really good in the house.

A nice basket, some tlc and finally his dreams will really come true!!!!
